Tennessee starting point guard Santiago Vescovi is originally from Montevideo, Uruguay — a very long way from his current home in Knoxville, Tennessee. Being so far away from your family, and everything else that you grew up around can make some people home sick, especially when you leave your home for a foreign country.
However, Vescovi was in for a massive surprise when he was giving an interview prior to the Volunteers’ tipoff with the Florida Gators on Saturday afternoon. Vescovi’s parents and sister — who currently live in Montevideo — approached him from behind and surprised him with their presence.
His parents and sister — Pablo, Laura, and Lucia — travelled to Knoxville to watch Vescovi play in today’s SEC rivalry against the Florida Gators. In the video — which you can watch for yourself above — Vescovi’s mother snuck up from behind him and put her hands over his eyes.

Vescovi, who visibly had no clue what was going on, then laughed and asked who it was. His mother, Laura, then said a simple phrase, “Hi.” He knew exactly who it was from that point on, “That’s mom.” He turned around and to his complete astonishment, he saw his family standing there, as they all had a group hug.
It was a truly touching moment in Thompson-Boling Arena before the Vols’ big match-up with the Florida Gators, which will tipoff at 2:00ET on Saturday.
