DEVELOPING STORY: Two Tennessee Players To Leave Program

by | Sep 24, 2019 | VOL Articles, VOL Football 2019

KNOXVILLE, TENN– Tuesday morning rumors began flying that the University of Tennessee could have multiple players enter the NCAA transfer portal in the near future. Tuesday afternoon, those rumors proved to be true as it appears that both Shannon Reid and Jacquez Jones have entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, according to John D. Brice of VolQuest. “Shannon Reid & Jacquez Jones have officially entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, per source with direct knowledge,” Brice wrote in a tweet on Tuesday Afternoon.

Neither Reid or Jones attended practice this afternoon, along with Will Ignont who also failed to make the trip to Gainesville last Saturday in the Vols 34-3 blowout loss to the Gators. We at Volunteer Roadshow have decided to avoid speculating on Ignont’s situation until definitive information emerges one way or the other.

Reid was 4th on UT’s Inside Linebacker depth chart landing behind Henry To’oto’o, Daniel Buituli, and Jeremy Banks leading many to speculate that the move was made due to a lack of playing time. As for Jones, it is a similar story as he racked up very little playing time buried in a loaded WR Core. It is worth noting that both players may withdraw their name from the Transfer Portal at any time per the NCAA’s transfer rules.

This story will be updated as we learn more about the situation.
