Former Vols LB Apologizes to Law Enforcement for Viral TMZ Video

Former Tennessee LB, Jeremy Banks was dismissed from the University of Tennessee football program on October 6th after 2 videos surfaced from TMZ Sports. The first video showed Banks telling a police officer, “Where I’m from (Memphis) we shoot cops.” The video ended up spreading like wildfire and national media organizations, such as Fox News, picked the story up. When a 2nd video surfaced featuring Banks arguing with a female, UT had no choice but to release him following suffering fierce backlash, yet again, from the media. Pruitt put out a statement about the situation, in which he said, “I have made the decision to remove Jeremy Banks from our football program.” Pruitt’s statement went on to read, “While I will continue to support Jeremy in the next steps in his life, information I recently received made it clear that this decision is in the best interest of the football program and the university.”

Since being removed from the Vols’ program, news about Banks has been fairly slow. However, Banks broke his silence on the situation on Monday via Twitter, apologizing for his mistake saying, “I’m truly sorry for my mistake, and I really appreciate everyone that’s rocking with me.” Banks also tweeted a photo of himself with 3 local officers with the caption, “That night I had forgot to pray moments before, it was counted for though. FOR THE PEOPLE.”

Banks last appearance in a Tennessee uniform was against the Chattanooga Mocs, he finished with 7 tackles and 2 interceptions in a game where he led the Vols’ defense to a 45-0 shutout win. The Sophomore was a part of Jeremy Pruitt’s first recruiting class in Knoxville and was rated as the 13th best player in the State of Tennessee according to 247 Sports.

While Banks’ future both on and off the field remains unknown, you have to appreciate that he apologized for his mistake, even after being released from UT’s squad a month prior.
