Highly Recruited Graduate Transfer Commits to Tennessee

Sacred Heart University graduate transfer E.J. Anosike has committed to the University of Tennessee, according to a statement released from his Twitter account.

The 6’6’’ 245-pound forward was one of the best players in the Northeast Conference last season, earning first-team all Northeast honors. He averaged roughly 16 points per game, 12 rebounds, and 2 assists at Sacred Heart last year. Additionally, the Junior averaged 33 minutes per game, more than any other player on Sacred Heart’s roster.

Anosike announced earlier in the week that he would announce his commitment on Friday. His seven finalists were Tennessee, Gonzaga, Louisville, Georgia, Georgetown, Wake Forest, and Boston College — the Volunteers were also able to beat out other top schools in his recruitment that didn’t make Anosike’s shortlist of potential landing spots.

Interestingly, Anosike’s big sister also played at Tennessee. Nicky Anosike played for Pat Summitt’s Lady Vols from 2004-2008, winning a national championship, and finishing with over 1,000 points in her career. Many speculate that this connection could have helped Tennessee immensely in her little brother’s recruiting process, and it is possible that it could have put Tennessee over the top in terms of landing Anosike.

The veteran player also had an incredible dunk last year that made SportsCenter’s top ten as their number one overall spot, earning national attention in the process.

Anosike will be a massive asset in the paint for Tennessee as he will be joined next season by returning forwards Yves Pons and John Fulkerson. Add in freshman 5-star guards Keon Johnson and Jaden Springer and the Vols could be a force to be reckoned with for the 2020-21 season, likely again in the running to win the SEC as they look to make the program’s first-ever final four.
