Isaac Washington Decommits From Tennessee

by | Feb 19, 2020 | Reporting

Pilot Mountain, NC— Isaac Washington, a 6’3’’ 268-pound defensive tackle, has decommitted from the University of Tennessee’s 2021 recruiting class due to changes in the program’s coaching staff, according to a tweet from Washington on Wednesday Evening.

Washington’s lead recruiter to the Volunteers was defensive line coach Tracy Rocker, however, after Rocker’s contract expired at Tennessee on January 2nd, he went to Columbia to coach the defensive line at the University of South Carolina. While Washington insists that he is still “extremely interested” in coming to Knoxville, the news that he is reopening his recruitment does not exactly come as a monumental surprise due to his close relationship with Rocker.

Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels offered the East Surry High School Student on Tuesday, leading many to suspect that Oxford could be a potential destination for Washington. In addition to Tennessee and Ole Miss, the member of the class of 2021 has earned offers from Georgia, Florida, Auburn, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia Tech, and is likely to earn even more offers throughout the coming months of his recruitment.

According to 247 Sports Composite, the Pilot Mountain, North Carolina native is rated as the 31st best player in his state, 40th best defensive tackle in the nation, and has an overall rating of 0.8527 — which is good enough to earn a 3-Star ranking on the site. Washington is also rated as a 3-Star on Rivals, which has him rated as the 24th ranked player in his state, and the 32nd best player at his position.

Washington committed to Tennessee back on January 25th of the new year, and with nearly a year until National Signing Day, it will be extremely interesting to see how Jeremy Pruitt and the Volunteers try to regain Washington’s commitment.

Bryce Thompson Looking To Paint South Carolina Orange on Saturday

A little over a year ago, the University of Tennessee’s talented cornerback, Bryce Thompson, was in hot water when a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence sidelined his promising career. Fans wondered if his future would be hampered by character issues. Despite some backlash, Head Coach Jeremy Pruitt determined that suspending Thompson for the first two games of the 2019 season would be sufficient, as long as the sophomore defensive back learned from the experience and kept his nose clean. It didn’t take long for Thompson to prove to his coach and team that he could walk the straight and narrow.
