Pruitt Denies Rumors Regarding Jeremy Banks Being Reinstated

Rumors regarding former Tennessee linebacker Jeremy Banks’ reinstatement into the Volunteers’ football program have been circulating since the conclusion of the Vols’ regular season, however, when the Memphis native posted an Instagram picture of himself in a Tennessee uniform with the caption: “Thanks God, all Glory to you! See you soon #Aug2020,” many interpreted it as an announcement of his return. Tennessee fans had mixed feelings on the matter as many took to social media to voice their support for Banks, but others spoke out against a possible return.

However, when Tennessee head football coach Jeremy Pruitt was asked by the Knoxville News Sentinel’s Blake Toppmeyer if Banks had rejoined the Vols’ team, he responded with a one-word phrase: “No.” Pruitt did not elaborate any more information on the situation and did not rule out a possible future return to the program.

Banks was dismissed from the football team back in October when two viral TMZ videos surfaced. One of the videos showed Banks seemingly threatening a female University of Tennessee student, and the other depicted him in the back seat of a police car telling a female officer, “Where I’m from (Memphis), we shoot at cops.”

After the dismissal, Banks elected to remain enrolled at the University of Tennessee instead of entering the NCAA Transfer Portal, which— in part— likely contributed to the rumors that Vols Fans hadn’t seen the last of him.

Banks only played in three games this season— Georgia State, BYU, and Chattanooga— but performed impressively, including snatching two interceptions in the Vols’ 45-0 victory over the Mocs. In 2019 the freshman played running back before converting to linebacker later in the season. The young player was seen as a rising star up until his dismissal this year.

If any new details emerge regarding this story we will update this article to reflect them.

Bryce Thompson Looking To Paint South Carolina Orange on Saturday

A little over a year ago, the University of Tennessee’s talented cornerback, Bryce Thompson, was in hot water when a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence sidelined his promising career. Fans wondered if his future would be hampered by character issues. Despite some backlash, Head Coach Jeremy Pruitt determined that suspending Thompson for the first two games of the 2019 season would be sufficient, as long as the sophomore defensive back learned from the experience and kept his nose clean. It didn’t take long for Thompson to prove to his coach and team that he could walk the straight and narrow.
