Tennessee Trending For 5-Star Florida Linebacker

Tennessee has been on fire from the recruiting trail in the last few days with the additions of 5-star defensive end Dylan Brooks, 4-star cornerback Kamar Wilcoxson, and 4-star wide receiver Julian Nixon. The Vols surged in the 247Sports recruiting rankings as they are now rated as having the 5th best class in the nation, and according to many recruiting insiders, they’re about to climb even higher.

Tennessee is now the favorite to land 5-star linebacker Terrence Lewis, the No. 2 ranked player in the State of Florida and the No. 1 ranked outside linebacker in the nation. A flood of experts who work for 247Sports predicted that Lewis would end up in Knoxville, including Andrew Ivins — Lewis’ lead expert — and recruiting guru Steve Wiltfong.

Lewis stands at 6’1’’ and weighs in at 200-pounds, earning more than 40 offers from college programs. Lewis’ growing offer list includes Alabama, Florida, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Southern California, and more. However, Tennessee, Miami, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Alabama, and Florida are thought to be among the top contenders, with the Vols being the most likely destination.

Lewis’ talent is crystal clear according to everyone who has had the opportunity to watch him play. Charles Power, a national writer for 247Sports, believes that Lewis has the potential to develop into a 1st Round NFL draft pick. “(He) has a lean build with no bad weight and long arms. Already has some muscle mass but should be able to tack on some more bulk at the college level,” writes Power. “(He) looks like a high-end athlete and plays like it on Friday nights.”

Power went on to write, “(He was) highly productive over his high school career to date as a high volume tackler who makes plays behind the line of scrimmage and in coverage. Dominant defensive player on one of Florida’s top high school teams as a sophomore and junior.”

Powers wrapped up his scouting report on Lewis by writing, “(He is) instinctive as a run defender and blitzer with the ability to pick his way through the line and make tackles for loss. Has high-level closing speed and ability to chase plays down in pursuit. Also shows proficiency in coverage both in live games and 7-on-7 settings. Will need to continue adding bulk and strength as he is lean at this point in time. Projects as a multi-year starter at the Power 5 level with the upside of developing into an early round NFL Draft selection.”

While rumors have been swirling throughout the last few days regarding a potential commitment from Lewis, no official commitment-date has been set.
