Volunteer Roadshow’s Week 9 Players Of The Week

by | Oct 21, 2019

Tennessee did not get the win over long-time rival Alabama on Saturday, but that does not mean that some individual players did not garner recognition. The votes are in from the Volunteer Roadshow Staff on who the players of the game are in each respective phase of the game and here are the results.

Offensive Player of the Week- Tim Jordan

Jordan ran with conviction on Saturday night and was a surprising spark to Tennessee’s offense. Jordan went for 94 yards on 17 carries. Jordan’s longest run of the day came on a 33-yard jaunt. He likely secured many more touches down the stretch. Jordan has been on the brink of breaking out, and his time finally arrived against the nation’s top team. The outing was Jordan’s second-best rushing performance in his career. He rushed for 118 yards against West Virginia in last year’s season opener in Charlotte.

Defensive player of the Week-Greg Emerson

Emerson won this one on a split decision. Nigel Warrior’s performance did not let Emerson walk away with this. What pushed Emerson over the top was the fact that he sparked a Tennessee defensive line that has been in desperate need of a push upfront. Emerson totaled 6 tackles, with one tackle for loss, and one sack. He took over at times. He showed the ability that he was touted to have coming out of high school. Emerson is the entrenched starter in the middle. He will be a crucial part of this five-game stretch run towards a bowl game.

Special Teams Player of the week- Brent Cimaglia

Cimaglia was a shoe-in for this one. The Vols punters struggled mightily, but Cimaglia was perfect on the night. He was 2/2 for the night on field goals and made the only extra point of the night. Cimaglia is now 13/14 on the season on field-goal attempts, making him one of the most accurate kickers in the nation.
